I have been too busy to post, but recently found this video that was worth sharing. Pretty cool!

Great article today from News.com on newspapers and the state of their classified business. As an executive was quoted, “the ship has sailed.” Historically, newspapers have been monoplies or order takers unlike today were they are forced to compete against a slew of more nimble and new competitors.

“The culture in the newspapers is the real culprit. There is inertia,” said Greg Sterling, principal of Sterling Market Intelligence. “I don’t necessarily think it’s too late for them, but the challenge always with newspapers is execution.”

American has become the fat man wearing neon colored crocs.

Absolutely brilliant.

After realizing that they can make more money through advertising than subscriptions by opening up their op-ed pages to the public, the Times has given in to reality and will now make their op-ed pages available free of charge.

Will the WSJ be next? Yes. Although the trend is to capture a bigger slice of advertising budgets, I am still not convinced this is the best long term strategy.

A century of Bancroft-family ownership at Dow Jones & Co. is over.

Rupert Murdoch’s $5 billion bid for The Wall Street Journal has been accepted after three months of drama. Given the current state of the business, lack of leadership, and family bickering, it was never is doubt that Murdoch would win yet again!

It appears Dow Jones will soon become a part of the News Corp family both literally and figuratively. My prediction back on May 1st seems to be coming true. Next stop, Atlantic City and I am betting on black.

To be frank, it’s probably the best thing to happen to the Wall Street Journal for some time.

News Corp. has made an unsolicited offered to acquire Dow Jones at $60 per share which obviously resulted in an immediate surge in the stock price of Dow Jones.

According to the media and anyone in the “know,” Murdoch has had a long-standing interest in acquiring the Wall Street Journal and its parent company Dow Jones. By going public with the offer, I would assume the Bancroft family is seriously considering it. Given that the initial offer was at a more than 50 percent premium or totaling about $5 billion, there is a good chance Murdoch succeeds.

Although new suitors may appear (mainly the Washington Post), I am not quite sure they will have the pockets to outbid a motivated buyer.
